Getting started
Where do I get an org code?
Org codes are issued by the fly fishing organization, TU chapter, or fly shop that uses the Hatch Chart system. Contact them directly — most publish their code on their website, social media, or hand it out at events.
If you just want to explore the app, use DEMO as your org code. It loads a sample hatch dataset.
My org code isn't working — it says "Organization not found"
- Check spelling — codes are short (3–8 letters) with no spaces. The app isn’t case-sensitive, but stray spaces cause failures.
- Check your connection — the app must be online to validate a code the first time.
- The org may not be live yet — newly signed-up organizations can take a day or two to activate.
- Try DEMO — if DEMO works but your code doesn’t, the issue is specific to that org’s account. Contact the organization.
My SUB-* subscriber token isn't working
- Enter the full token — it must start with
SUB-. Copy and paste it if possible. - Check expiry — subscriber tokens have an expiration date. Contact us to renew.
- Token shows “no organizations” — the token exists but no orgs are assigned yet. Email us.
I downloaded a dedicated org app but it's asking for a code
Dedicated apps should skip the code screen entirely. Try force-quitting and relaunching. If it persists, delete and reinstall — a fresh install boots correctly.
Hatches & data
The app shows no hatches / the hatch list is empty
- Check your connection on first launch — the app downloads hatch data once, then caches it for offline use.
- Pull to refresh on the Hatches tab.
- Your org may not have configured hatches yet — contact your organization.
- Try DEMO — if DEMO loads fine, the issue is your org’s data, not the app.
The data looks old / hasn't updated
Hatch content is cached for 5 minutes — pull to refresh to force a fresh fetch. River gauge data updates every 15 minutes, and USGS itself can run 15–30 minutes behind real time. Reports refresh every time you open the Reports tab.
The Active Now badge is on the wrong hatches
The badge is based on today’s actual date on your device, not the month selected in the filter. Check that your phone’s date and time are set automatically. If the date is right, the hatch’s active months were set by your organization — contact them if a month looks wrong.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Hatch data, fly patterns, and your Fly Box are cached on your device after the first successful load. Live features — river gauges, reports, and push alerts — need a connection, but everything you need at the vise or on the water works offline.
For organizations
What do we need to run Hatch Chart for our organization?
A WordPress website and about an afternoon. You install two plugins, connect with the credentials we issue, and pull in 18 starter hatches to customize. See For Organizations for the full walkthrough.
Can we put the hatch chart on our own website too?
Yes — the same interactive chart that powers the app embeds on any page of your WordPress site with the [hatch_chart] shortcode, plus a compact monthly graphic and a live river-conditions widget.
Who moderates member hatch reports?
You do — from your own WordPress dashboard. Reports can auto-publish or go to a moderation queue, and admins can reply to any report with local guidance.
